Ivan Sergiyovych Byk was born 22nd August, 1937 in the city of Gulyaypole, Zaporizhya Region, Ukraine. He graduated from the Donetsk Polytechnic Institute (1960). Mr. Byk worked for some time at the Lugansk Diesel Locomotive Building Plant (1960-1964), at Lugansk City Regional Committee of the LKSMU (1964-1967), Lugansk City Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine (1967-1969), Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine (1969-1991), the Machine Building Military-Industrial Complex and Conversion Ministry (Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine) (1991-2002). Head lecturer of the Lugansk Diesel Locomotive Building Plant (1964-1968), Professor of the Institute of the Heavy Industry Personnel Training, Professor of the Industrial Academy (Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine) (1991-2002), Professor of the Kyiv National Technical University “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” (1990-1992). Doctor of Economics (1990), author of 75 scientific works, particularly monograph “Management and Effectiveness Problems of Scientific Activity in Highest Education Institutions” (Vyshcha Shkola, 1982, 256 pages); “Integration of Scientific and Industrial Potential” (Naukova Dumka, 1992, 243 pages). Mr. Byk is a co-author of the innovation patent of underground coal gasification. He is the captain of combined team of Ukraine, the world champion in chess (team group) (2001-2005), multi prize winner of Europe and World Championships and also World Chess Olympic games (1992-2000). Honorable Worker of Physical Training and Sports of Ukraine (1999), Cavalier of “Order of Honour” (1987) and an order "For Merit" 3rd Class.
